When you donate to LIFT, you are doing more than helping build and maintain a roof over someone’s head; you are helping individuals and families gain stability and engage more deeply with the community.
How Do We Use your Money?
At LIFT, we make the best use of funds in all situations. Efficient money and resource management means streamlining processes, avoiding duplication, managing expenses to produce cost savings, and reducing energy use, as well as identifying emerging opportunities that may benefit residents and the community as a whole.
Donated funds will be used alongside grant dollars and low-interest loans to create and maintain housing in Kalamazoo for the betterment of individuals and our collective society.
Most housing for persons with a low-income is created using Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) according to strict State and Federal guidelines. LIFT uses its extensive experience as a provider of quality affordable housing to participate in the highly competitive process for these funds. However, the LIHTC process is not an immediate solution as projects can take a minimum of two years to reach occupancy; most projects take much longer than two years to develop. LodgeHouse is a unique opportunity that seeks to fast-track creating affordable housing in about one year using donations from the local community and providers, bypassing the cumbersome LIHTC process.
Since 1966 LIFT has worked to create affordable housing opportunities for the Kalamazoo community. Today LIFT continues this work to ensure all members of our community have housing choices.
